Kenton Yellow Kid Donkey Wagon

Circa Early 20th Century: Richard Felton Outcault's groundbreaking 1890s comic strip Hogan's Alley features a character named Mickey Dugan, who became widely known as The Yellow Kid and is generally regarded as America's first comic character. Because of The Yellow Kid's immense popularity and immediate commercial success, toy companies of the day began to manufacture and sell Yellow Kid items, thus creating the now longstanding comic character toy market. This rare Kenton Yellow Kid donkey wagon measures 8.25"L x 4.75"H and depicts Mickey Dugan as an African American child with a red gown. The pressed steel wagon is painted yellow, and the donkey and wagon wheels are presented in silver, giving the toy an original bright four-color paint scheme. A slot in the bottom of the cart allows for the Yellow Kid figure to be removed and is most probably the reason this donkey cart is often found without its figure.
