Leet Hamilton 3 Gallon Freehand Decorated Churn

Circa 1857-1865: Potter William "Leet" Hamilton went into business for himself in Greensboro PA in 1857 and sold his business to his son Frank Hamilton and son-in-law John Jones of Hamilton and Jones fame in 1865 at the close of the Civil War. In that brief eight year span, Leet Hamilton's company created some of the most beautifully decorated Southwestern Pennsylvania stoneware ever manufactured. This wonderful and scarce 15.5" tall three gallon churn with exuberant top to bottom freehand brushed cobalt decoration is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, aside from minor staining and expected factory firing anomalies, remains in as fired condition. This is a handsome churn with two large flowers and their connecting leaves and vines, six stripes, and a central 3 flanked on both sides by four dashes. That's a pile of decoration!
