Stellar Stump Speaker Mechanical Bank

Circa 1886: Designed by Charles Shepard and Peter Adams Jr. and manufactured by Shepard Hardware Company in Buffalo, New York, the Stump Speaker mechanical bank lampoons post Civil War carpetbaggers. Condition is superb on this classic black-faced variation of the Stump Speaker with no chips, cracks, repairs, in-painting, or restoration and approximately 90% of its marvelous seven-color original paint scheme. Like its partner the Uncle Sam mechanical bank, the Stump Speaker works by placing a coin in the figure's hand and pressing the button, which drops the figure's arm, opens its bag so that the coin drops into it, and trips the figure's mouth so that it continues to "speak" after the coin is collected.
