Circa 1879-1897: This fine 13.75" tall three gallon clearly stamped J.M. Hickerson Strasburg, Virginia, storage jar with dark blue freehand decoration on both sides is in excellent condition with some typical minor nicking on top and bottom rims and no cracks or repairs. During firing, this jar was privy to a nice thick coating of salt glaze, which has left it with a very attractive shiny surface. This is an unusually handsome example of Shenandoah Valley of Virginia crockery with great contrast, which increases its desirability among collectors.
