Schoenhut Circus Elephant with Glass Eyes and Blanket

Circa 1903-1918: By the early 20th century, five of Albert Schoenhut's six sons had joined him in business in Philadelphia making dolls, pianos and other novelties. The circus animals and performers remain one of their most popular creations and the earliest versions with glass eyes and original pieces, like this large 8" elephant, are highly desirable. With its ceremonial head cover and fringed blanket, this early example of Schoenhut's first large animals is in excellent all original condition with its leather-tipped wooden trunk, tusks, leather flap ears, swivel neck, jointed legs, and rope tail.
