Circa 2nd Half 19th Century: This attractive 6 1/2"D x 2 5/8"H sailor made folk art ditty box features original green, red, and black paint and a large carved eight-point star on its lid. Sailors often made folk art gifts for their loved ones to pass the time at sea, and this interesting box is an excellent example of the handiwork prodeced by sailors in the 19th century. Condition is excellent with one missing peg and some minor loss to the lid's band and the bottom edge of the base as photographed.
