Circa Late 20th Century: Brother of world famous Georgia folk art potter Lanier Meaders, Reggie Meaders (1919-2009) lived to be 90 years old and is considered a master potter in his own right. This 9.5" tall devil face jug inscribed "Reggie Meaders" features a combination of ochre, red, and white glazes. Reggie Meaders devil jugs are scarce, and this example is particularly expressive with its wide ears, thick horns, bloody eyes, and white teeth gleaming through the jug's blood-red lips. Obviously, this demon has been busy! The jug is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs and only typical as made firing anomalies. This is a fine and complex example of Reggie Meaders' work and shows the native Georgia potter at his masterful best.
