Circa 1880s: Ohio stoneware collectors are always looking for something different to scratch their itch, and this bottle form half gallon tanware jug made in Southwest Pennsylvania for Pomeroy, Ohio merchant J. A. Franz is a rare find, indeed. Standing just over 8.5" in height but having a diameter of only 4", this small jug seems like a tall drink of water. Condition is nearly as fired with only minor typical scattered glaze wear on no chips, cracks, or repairs. This is a wonderful example of 19th century merchant ware from a small Ohio River town.
