Circa 1880: West Virginia stoneware is always a prized commodity among collectors, and this 10" tall one gallon stencil decorated storage jar signed Palatine W.VA. certainly fits the bill. The cobalt is dark and crisp, and this beautiful 140-year-old crock remains in essentially as made condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs and only as fired glaze anomalies. It's hard to find them this clean.
