Circa Mid 19th Century: Measuring 4.75"H x 6"D, this amply sized lathe turned treen sugar bowl in original polychromatic paint decoration is absolutely remarkable in that it has survived in such pristine condition with over 90% of its paint and only one minor age split on the lid's underside that does not go through to the surface. Wear to the paint is mostly on the beautifully turned finial, where it is expected from use, and the lid fits snugly on the bowl. Painted treenware in this conditon is rare, and this well made footed sugar bowl has the fantastic visual and sculptural appeal that advanced collectors require.
