Circa 2nd Quarter 19th Century: Measuring a petite 19.25"H x 17.75"W x 11"D and constructed entirely of poplar, this dynamically flame mahogany grain painted child's chest of drawers most certainly bears a strong resemblance to the furniture of storied Hanover, Pennsylvania, cabinet maker John Rupp, and we wouldn't be surprised if this turned out to be an example of his work. The chest is both skillfully painted and finely rendered to include dovetailed drawers with chamfered bottoms and square nails, a cut out backsplash with overhanging top, and cut out Chippendale influenced feet. Condition is excellent with typical wear commensurate of age, an old price and collection number in the top drawer, and some old children's writing inside the drawers, which gives away the chest's purpose.
