Circa 1880s: The beautifully crazed surface on this s 10"L x 4.5"W x 2"H square nail and mortise and tenon constructed handmade folk art doll sled in original windsor green and black paint decoration place its date of creation squarely in the 1880s. We love the name Lester painted on both runners, the folksy black pinstriping and the central star sourrounded by twenty dots. Found in new England, this charming piece of 19th century American folk art was once painted completely green, but, through use, the paint on the runner bottoms has worn off where the sled was pulled through the snow. At one time, someone pushed ed a tack through the star perhaps to secure clothing so that the doll would remain secure when the sled was in use. Ex. Stephen Douglas Antiques.
