Circa 1800-1850: This handsome and unusual presentation 10" script decorated redware plate made for C.G. Payne was more than likely manufactured in Norwalk, Connecticut, by Absalom Day or the firm Smith and Day. The plate's eye catching script decoration is well done and graphically pleasing, and the plate has survived in excellent condition with typical minor rim chips, expected crazing, minimal wear to the yellow script, great color, and no cracks or repairs. Provenance: Ex Sheridan Loyd American Antiques from the esteemed Lewis Scranton collection
