Circa 1878-1897: Large two gallon New York stoneware pitchers with bird decoration are difficult to find, and this hefty 12" tall stamped "Brady and Ryan / Ellenville, N.Y." is an attractive example of the form. This pitcher features Samuel Brady and John Ryan's classic bird with its open beak uplifted in song, a cheerful reminder of the natural world around us. The pitcher is in excellent as fired condition but for one minor flake on rim as photographed and no other chips, cracks, or repairs.
