Circa 1870-1882: This 8" tall half gallon storage jar turned by storied New Geneva, Pennsylvania, potter Alexander Conrad has the rich dark blue decoration and excellent contrast that advanced collectors of Southwestern Pennsylvania stoneware crave. The stencil includes strong block lettering and an abstract central motif along with a thick freehand stripe under the rim. Condition is excellent with a minor short, tight line at base and bottom on the back of the jar and one minor nick on the rim. This is a beautiful small jar in Conrad's best blue.
