Circa 1880-1900: Tanware flowerpots are highly coveted, and this one has an expertly decorated triple-headed flower rising on its field which makes the already tall flowerpot seem even taller. The attached pan is decorated so that it looks like the flower has emerged from the meadow below. The deft and delicate brushwork transform this utilitarian piece of New Geneva, Pennsylvania, pottery into an elegant work of art. This flowerpot remains in essentially as made condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs.
