Circa Late 19th Century: Collectors crave miniature pantry boxes, and this 2 3/4"D x 1 3/8"H round pantry box in period cherry red paint can rest in the palm of one's hand. This painter of this pantry box applied a thin coat of varnish to the box when the paint was dry in order to protect the paint, giving this handsome box a "wet" surface. Condition is excellent with no breaks or repairs, and the box is constructed with hand cut brads, wooden pegs, and opposing finger joints, all qualities of pantry boxes attributed to South Hingham, Massachusetts.
