Circa 1911: Designed by Charles A. Bailey for the J. & E. Stevens Company in Cromwell, Connecticut, the scarce Lion Hunter mechanical bank depicts outdoorsman and hunter President Theodore Roosevelt shooting a lion and commemorates his big game safari in Africa. The Lion Hunter is the little known cousin of Teddy and The Bear, the more common bank that portrays Teddy Roosevelt's outdoorsmanship and crosses over into the realms of patriotic americana, political and presidential antiques and memorabilia, and sporting antiques, making it highly desirable in several collecting categories. This bank is in superb original condition and retains over 90% of its original paint and mica flake surface. The bank has excellent action, functions properly, retains its original coin trap, and has no chips, cracks, or repairs. This fantastic cast iron mechanical bank rarely comes on the open market, and finding another one in this immaculate working condition would be a difficult task indeed. Ex Haley Collection.
