Circa 1870: This profusely decorated 11.75" tall two gallon storage jar bears the least often found "James Hamilton & Co. / Greensboro, Pa." stencil in bold block letters amongst a bevy of freehand, including the classic southwestern Pennsylvania leaf and vine motif, five stripes, and a fancy scrolled two gallon capacity mark flanked on either side with a series of graduated dashes. This terrific 150-year-old stoneware Greene County PA storage jar has survived in absolutely as made condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs and only a single salt drip from the firing process.
