Circa 1822-1835: English potter Joseph Stubbs, certainly chose well when he decided to enclose Philadelphia's Bank of the United States within his patriotic eagle border and make it part of his series to market on American shores. The Bank of the United States itself was founded in 1791 after George Washington signed the bank bill into law, but the building in this view would not be constructed until 1795 or completed until 1797. Interestingly, this building still stands today and is currently undergoing a 22 million dollar renovation in order to house a musuem dedicated to the early American economy and is scheduled to open to the public in 2026, which should markedly enhance the desirability of this scarce Philadelphia transferware pattern. This dark blue 10" plate was never marked but has survived in very nice condition with very minor rim roughness and moderate utensil wear on the front and expected shelf wear on the reverse.
