Circa 1820s: When Revolutionary War hero General Marquis de Lafayette landed on American shores in 1824 for his two year victory tour of the United States, he became wildy popular with our nation's citizens, and even the English potteries produced wares bearing the French genaral's image for the American market. One of the more famous American historical Staffordshire views depicts the Lafayette in repose at Ben Franklin's tomb at Christ Church Burial Ground in Philadelphia. This elegant coffeepot measures 11" tall and is in good visual condition with minor typical wear on the spout and an early repair to the spout where it had been knocked off the pot at the base and reglued. If you look closely at the photos, you can see the thin dark blue line around the base of the spout where the pot has been repaired. The coffepot shows handsomely, however, and our price reflects its condition.
