Circa 1890-1920: This amply sized 7 5/8" tall German squeak toy with working bellows depicts a colorful composition rooster on perched atop a tree stump. The rooster legs are springs, and when one presses the squeaky bellows and lets go, the rooster moves back and forth, giving the toy a delightful kinetic quality that is meant to hold the owner's attention and lengthen the time spent with the toy. This toy has survived in excellent gently played with condition considering its fragility. The original paint remains vivid, and the squeak toy's imperfections including typical mild crazing as photographed, very minor expected exfoliation around the ends of the springs, and one small base puncture. The rooster on stump is much more difficult to find than the simple rooster versions, and this one shows the barnyard stump speaker at his cocksure best.
