Circa 1902-1917: Under the pen name Bunny, Carl Schultz created the good humored, clever and witty character of Foxy Grandpa that quickly captured the hearts of the American public. This 12" tall papier-mache Foxy Grandpa has a movable mouth which opens and closes by squeezing the toy's simple wooden bellows housed in FG's chest and making the figure function like a small ventriloquist's dummy. With spectacles cast of pot metal added to the face and a pleasing cotton costume with Foxy Grandpa's hallmark red bowtie, this scarce early 20th century toy portrays a charming and important character from America's golden age of comics. Condition is generally excellent with a line to the bust as photographed.
