Petite Engine Turned Cream Jug

Circa 1780-1820: Standing a mere 4.25" tall, this handsome engine turned cream jug was manufactured by one of England's Staffordshire potteries for the American market. Bedecked from top to bottom with stripes in four colors of slip, this small creamer is a visual jewel. Because of the utilitarian nature of the English soft paste porcelain exported to America in the 18th and 19th centuries, most of the surviving examples are heavily damaged or repaired, but this creamer has withstood its 200+ year history in excellent condition with only one small base flake as photographed, typical factory firing anomalies, and no chips or repairs.
