1 Gallon Ovoid Storage Jar with Dot Decoration

Circa 1820s: This eye pleasing one gallon ovoid stoneware storage jar has a distinctive cobalt ten-dot triangular pattern on the one side, three wavy blue lines on the opposite side, and decorated cobalt handle terminals to boot. This 10" tall jar has tooled handles, tooled lines at the bottom of the collar and on its bottom rim, and an Albany slip interior. The jar's form itself is graceful, showing that it was thrown by a highly skilled potter. Although we are unsure of the maker and exact origin, we feel the described attributes will help identify the maker and locale in the future as there is major reserach underway in the field of early American northeastern stoneware. Condition is nearly as made with a few minor nicks on the top and bottom rims and no cracks or repairs.
