Circa 1879-1893: Pennsylvania batter pitchers are a hot commodity in the present stoneware market, and this attractive one gallon batter jug from the storied Williamsport PA firm of Sipe and Sons is a classic example of the wares that author Phil Shaltenbrand describes on page 63 in his seminal volume Big Ware Turners (Westerwald Press 2002) as "light in weight, beautifully handled and tastefully decorated." This 9" tall (not including bail handle) floral decorated Lycoming County, Pennsylvania batter pitcher is in nearly as made condition with tiny nick on the inside rim and no other chips, cracks, or repairs but for the usual firing anomalies, including a glazed over in the making shallow flake on the top of the rim.
