Scarce Warner and Russell 2 Gallon Storage Jar

Circa 1884-1885: In 1884, Ohioans William Warner and his son-in-law E. O. Russell leased J. B. Sandusky's Bridgeport, West Virginia, pottery works on Simpson Creek and began their short-lived partnership. Mr. Warner had left the pottery by 1885, leaving the company in the hands of his daughter's capable husband. Consequently, any stoneware marked Williams & Russell was manufactured in this brief one year time span, making these pieces fairly difficult to find. This 11.5" tall two gallon storage jar features arrows and diamonds on the partnership's stencil and is in superb condition with only one typical shallow flake on the inside rim and no cracks or repairs. This is a very nice example from one of West Virginia's little known stoneware manufactories and is sure to be a fine addition to one's collection.
