Circa 1852-1867: This 13" tall three gallon salt glazed storage crock is easily attributable to Greensboro, Pennsylvania's first potter Daniel Boughner or his sons Alexander and William Boughner. The floral sprays that surround the three gallon capacity mark have been found on many signed Boughner pieces, and the rest of the jar's physical and decorative elements fall in line with other signed Boughner crockery. The jar is in fine condition with only a couple very minor nicks -- one on the shoulder molding and one on one of the handles -- and no other chips, cracks, or repairs. This is a very scarce example of Southwest Pennsylvania stoneware by the region's earliest potting family.
