Rare Philip Eiler 2 Gallon Stoneware Jug

Circa 1863-1873: Stoneware from Allegheny County, Pennsylvania's East Birmingham is extremely scarce and sought after in today's collecting arena, and this highly decorated two gallon jug manufactured by Philip Eiler's East Birmingham Pottery is a superb example of the elusive southwestern PA potter's work. Eiler's clay is usually a dull brown color, but this jug has a desirable gray coloration that contrasts beautifully with the rich cobalt feeehand and stencil decoration. Condition is excellent with only minor typical chipping on the spout lip and bottom rim and no cracks or repairs. Other than that, the jug is in as made condition with typical firing anomolies. It will be difficult to find another Eiler piece this nice on the open market.
