Circa 1870s: This unusual 7.5" tall by 12" diameter (13" including the handles) two gallon handled milk pan was made to accommodate heavy farm labor with its thick rim and wide spout. The double-sided decoration includes the dropped flower that is commonly found on Baltimore stoneware and cements its regional attribution. Condition is excellent with typical minor chipping on the handles and top rim and no cracks or repairs. The pan is out of round from the firing process, and the color is dark from the conditions in the kiln as the crock cooled. Tis is a fantastic piece of Baltimore's utilitarian crockery in a scarce form.
