Circa Mid 19th Century: This striking 8.5"L x 6.75"W x 4.5"H oval ditty box covered in its original period blue, orange green, and brown block printed wallpaper has the names John G. Brechbill, Elizabeth Brechbill, and Fanny Brechbill written in child's pencil script on the box's inside lid. John, Elizabeth, and Fanny are the children of Henry and Catharine Brechbill who were married in 1843 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. This box most likely belonged to Catherine and was probably made around the time of her marriage. There is an illegible March 1885 note on the bottom of the box that may add more family history to someone with better eyes than ours. This lovely box is hand stitched throughout, and condition is excellent with only typical expected minor edge wear and paper tears.
