Fine Boy with Hoop Toy Hollow Cut Silhouette

Circa 1840s: Housed in a 7 7/8" x 6 3/8" period (and possibly original) lemon gold frame, this early silhouette of a youth with hoop toy portrays the young man, whose figure is fully embellished with subtle black watercolor details, standing atop a blue foreground. This finely cut image is simple yet striking, the recently breeched boy poised and ready for play. The frame has old chips and expected wear as photographed, and the piece retains its original backboard, square nails, and hand cut hanger. Ex Donald H. Moylan Collection
