Circa 1850s: Signed Elisha Beal on the lid, this Hingham, Massachusetts, 5 1/8"L x 4"W x 2"H oval pantry box in superb original oxidized blue paint features opposing finger joints and square nail construction. Note the brighter blue paint on the base where the lid has kept it from darkening. This is exactly what one wants to see. Condition is genearally excellent with typical paint on the high points and no breaks or losses. This is a fantastic pantry box in a desirable color that is signed by a known maker from a town famous for its firkins and bentwood boxes.
