Circa 1825-1850: Measuring 3 5/8"H x 12 5/8""W x 8 1/8"D, this second quarter 19th century New England document box in its vibrant original five color (red, yellow, brown, black, and green) paint scheme retains its original delicate cotter pin hinges and is constructed with tiny hand cut brads. The lock is missing, but the box remains in excellent condition with expected minor losses and age related wood shrinkage. This is an exceptional example of early 19th century painted woodenware with impeccable provenance: Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates, Marshall Goodman Collection, Christie's, Eddy Nicholson Collection, Hirschl & Adler Galleries.
