Circa 1876: It's always a treat to find firkins attributed to South Hingham, Massachusetts, and this beautiful example in unusual original sage green paint decoration is signed "Our Centennial Best 1776 1876," showing that is was made to celebrate America's 100th anniversary as a nation. Measuring 11.75" tall with a bottom diameter of 12.5" and a top diameter of 12", this handsome country bucket features long finger joints, square nails, copper tacks, wooden pegs, and a hand chamfered bottom, all marks of South Higham's quality early construction. Condition is excellent with a long, glue-sealed age split around the lid's band and expected minor paint loss and age related wear. This is the only firkin we have owned in this breathtaking original sage green painted surface, and we're excited to put it on the open market.
