Circa Late 19th Century: It's always a treat to find firkins made in South Hingham, Massachusetts, and this desirable signed "L. Gardner S. Hingham Mass." firkin in difficult to find original bittersweet paint decoration is a real winner. Measuring 10" tall with a bottom diameter of 9.75" and a top diameter of 9", this handsome antique sugar bucket features long finger joints, square nails, copper tacks, wooden pegs, and a hand chamfered bottom, all marks of quality early construction. Condition is excellent with an age split and an old chip on the lid, expected age related wear and minor condition issues, including some old gray paint remnants accidentally spattered on the bucket from some century old painting project. This is a wonderful primitive firkin in great as found condition just the way we like our true farmohouse antiques.
