Yellow Slip Decorated Redware Loaf Dish

Circa 1850-1880: 19th century American script decorated redware is scarce, and finding a named loaf pan, like this one with the name Edwin inscribed in the center, will make even an advanced collector smile. It is more common to find personal inscriptions on round plates and chargers rather than on the more desirable forms. This 13.5"L x 8.5"W redware loaf dish with coggle edges is in excellent well used condition with no cracks or repairs and typical utensil marks and shallow chipping to the edges and yellow slip, which exhibits proper age related crazing. Note, too, the squiggly yellow borders and the straight line under the word Edwin that denotes the bottom of the script and even the charming dot floating above and slightly to the right of Edwin's lower case i.
