Circa Late 19th Century: The superb original three-color blue, white, and black paint scheme on this early rotating policeman whirligig is breathtakingly beautiful, and the policeman's carved form with its rounded edges, painted facial features, and wide arms is absolutely charming. The policeman's legs and black base are carved from separated pieces, and the whirligig figure is 12" tall with an armspan of 17" and an overall height of approximately 23" to the top of the arm in upright position including the natural wood base. There is an imperceptible professional repair to the arm wire, which we only mention because this "lucky" break probably caused the whirligig to be taken down and stored safely for many years, thus preserving its awesome original paint and delicate wide paddle arms.
