Circa 1915: Measuring 11.5" in length, this unusual black, green, and silver figural pencil case with a neat screw off nickle silver top was made by the American Pencil Company, which was founded in 1861 by Edward Weissenborn and sold to the Reckford family in 1885. By 1915, about the time this pencil holder was made, the company had of two thousand employees. This case is stamped with the company's shield logo and marked "American Pencil Co. N.Y. Patent Appl'd For." Condition is generally excellent with typical expected minor loss to the paint and holder's tip commensurate with age and use. This is a great piece of antique writing related advertising from one of our nation's earliest pencil manufacturers.
