Fine B.C. Milburn 1 Gallon Stoneware Storage Jar

Circa 1860: Illustrated on page 253 of Alexandria, Virginia Pottery: 1792-1876 (Wadsworth Publishing Company 2007), author Eddie Wilder calls this one gallon handled storage jar "an outstanding example bearing the mark of Milburn." The jar's squat semi-ovoid form helps us date its creation around 1860 as the B.C. Milburn's imprint on this jar was in use circa 1833-1866. The front of the crock is decorated with a large Alexandria flower, and the back of the jar features two different flowers placed horizontally from handle to handle. This 9.25" tall jar has survived in very good condition with losses to one handle, a minor flake to the base, no cracks or repairs, and other factory firing anomalies as made. This is an excellent published piece of Milburn's output.
