Circa 1814-1836: Joseph Stubbs' boldly patriotic eagle border frames this popular early American view of a well to do Pennsylvania couple relaxing above the waterway at Fairmont near Philadelphia. The dam was a technological marvel in our fledgling nation, and it is no wonder that people without the means to travel great distances wanted the chance to glimpse this great feat of human engineering from the comfort of their own homes via the plate's transferware pattern.
