Circa 1882: Designed by Charles Shepard and Peter Adams Jr. and manufactured by Buffalo, New York's Shepard Hardware Company, the Humpty Dumpty Clown bank was, in order to save on cost, never primed at the factory before it was painted. Thus, most extant examples of this whimsical mechanical bank have lost all their paint or have been repainted. This example has retained 85% of its original paint, has never been touched up or repainted, and has no chips, cracks, or repairs.
