Circa 1830s: Signed "June the 20 1837" in period script on the underside of the lid, this striking 9.5"H x 20.25"W x 12.25"D white pine New England storage box retains its original six- color paint decoration on a bright tomato red ground. The dovetailed and square nail constructed box in spectaular condition with minimal wear features four pinstipe borders (which indicates that it was most probably decorated by a professional carriage or sign painter) and the owner's initials, D.F.K., in gold and black. Morever, this terrific box sports its original hinges, key, and handsome stamped brass pull ring. This fine storage box will make a colorful addition to any collection of early American antiques. Ex.
