Miniature Canaryware Mug: A Recruiting Party Military Scene in Black Transfer

Circa 1820s: This rare early 19th century canary yellow miniature child's mug is a mere 1 7/8" tall and 1 5/8" in diameter, not including its hand applied handle. What is even more surprising is that this nearly 200-year-old piece of English pottery made for the American market is factory mint with no human damage and only minor manufacturing anomalies. The miniature coffee can is home to a three man military scene that includes a drummer, a soldier with sword, and a soldier with long gun and is entitled A Recruiting Party, which, in the child's mind, conjures up and enforces the age old patriotic vision of joining the military and fighting for one's country.
