Some of the most interesting items in the collection are Zimmerman's tools, including the pair of miniature wooden saws, which shows Zimmerman's delight in carving even imitations of his instruments. It is clear that a carver's tools are of the utmost importance to his work. Note the 1924 date of his sharpening stone box that Zimmerman kept until his death in 1961.

The sheet metal bird template serves as an excellent example of how Zimmerman constructed many of his carvings. This template fits precisely over the pictured songbird and was obviously used in its creation.
