Zimmerman did not limit his subject matter to American
iconography as is evidenced by this superb giraffe bench. Zimmerman
took great care in the making of his pieces. Here, Zimmerman has
mortised the seat to the bench ends! Note, too, that the use of red
painted eyes recurs throughout the collection.
Zimmerman often left inscriptions on his carvings. This unusual miniature giraffe bench is dated 1946 on the seats underside. WWII had just ended. Archie was 85.
