Circa 1938-1969: Yellow was the fourth of the five original Fiesta glaze colors that Frederick Rhead, Homer Laughlin's head designer, had to choose for what would eventually become the world's most collected dinnerware. In an essay entitled "More About Color," Rhead asserted that the original yellow Fiestaware glaze "had to be toned half way between the red and the green" and that "only the most brilliant yellow" HLCC could create "would talk in company with" the original blue, green, and red Fiesta pottery glazes. There is no doubt that other beautiful yellow glazes were developed right there in Newell, West Virginia, but the glaze Rhead chose for his forthcoming tableware line proved so popular that it was produced from Fiesta's bare beginnings through the end of the 1960s, the entire run of the original Fiestaware line.
This vintage Fiestaware disc water pitcher in the original yellow holds a healthy 71 ounces and remains in excellent condition without chips, cracks, or repairs, and, furthermore, features a fine even glaze application with nice shine and the legendary impressed bottom mark that reads: "HLC fiesta MADE IN U.S.A." We're elated to offer this collector quality piece of classic 20th century West Virginia tableware for sale, satisfaction guaranteed, as always, and are sure you'll love it just as we do.
