Circa 1936-1946: The original old ivory glaze had already been in use at Homer Laughlin on many of their other pottery shapes and lines years before Frederick Rhead designed and developed Fiesta tableware. While the Homer Laughlin China Company may have experimented with a white glaze during the initial testing for what would become their most popular creation, they ultimately settled on a glaze already in use— old ivory. This creamy, butter colored glaze has a more matte and less shiny finish, setting it apart from the rest of the Fiesta glazes. This subdued vellum surface distinctly identifies itself as timeless and second to none and added an elegant touch to the colorful mix and match dinnerware. As we've asserted on other pages, Fiestaware relish trays were originally marketed and sold in solid colors; so this attractive ivory tray remains just as would have been bought nearly 85 years ago. This set includes four slip-cast, thick walled inserts (all impressed with the iconic Fiesta logo) and a base and center in original ivory. This is a superb early relish tray in collector quality condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs with only minor typical in the making anomolies. We guarantee you'll be happy with this awesome piece of West Virginia pottery.
