Circa 1936-1946: Manufactured for a mere ten years, the large marmalade jar was prototyped with the intention of serving as the line's mustard jar but, obviously, was deemed too large for the task. Luckily, the shape's use was transferred to thoughts of jellies and jams, and what is now known as the Fiesta marmalade jar was chosen for production. So much hand craftsmanship went into the making of pre-WWII pottery production. The slots in the lid were punched out by hand before the clay had dried, and the fluted finial was cast separately and hand attatched to the lid. Additionally, HLCC potters hand jiggered rings around the lid's edges and smoothed the base's mold seams by hand.
Only available in the first six colors, the covered marmalade is one of a small handlful of delightful additions to the vintage Fiesta tableware selection. Complimenting the mustard, the larger marmalade helps elevate one's table setting with its unmistakable individuality.
Measuring 4 1/2" tall by 3 3/4" wide, this vintage Fiestaware lidded marmalade jar in original turquoise glaze is in excellent condtion, with a nice even brilliant glaze, no damage, a crisp classic Fiesta mark on impressed in the mold, which reads "fiesta HLCo USA".
