John Conley Blue Decorated Stoneware Crock

Circa 1880s: John Conley's little known pottery was located in White Cottage Post Office, an unincorporated community in Muskingum County on Route 22 between Lebanon and Zanesville in the south central Ohio. This two gallon salt glazed storage jar measures 11.25" tall and 8" in diameter including its broad, thick lip that was made expressly for tying off cheesecloth with twine. Conley's cobalt stencil decoration along with a faintly stamped two gallon capacity mark adorns the outside of the crock, and the intereior is covered in albany slip. This hard to find Ohio storage jar is in excellent condition with no cracks or repairs, one minor nick on the inside of the top rim, and only factory glaze and kiln anomalies as made.
